Owen is 1 Year Old!!

Our little Owie bug is one year old!! Hooray!! We can not believe that time has flown by quite this quickly!!

Owen had a wonderful first birthday even though he was feeling a little sick with an ear infection and eye infection. He also got sick one other time this month after we returned from Louisiana, catching some kind of virus. Despite the minor illnesses he has had a great month!

At Owen's one year check up, the doctor said he was a perfectly healthy boy! He weighed 20 lbs 5 oz (15%), his height was 29 1/4 inches (33%), and his head circumference was 18 inches (31%). He did get a shot, but took it like a champ and seriously did not even cry!

Owen and Landon have been having a blast playing together! Landon is very protective of Owen and tries to give him advice. "Don't touch that Owie!" "Don't put that in your mouth Owie!" And of course if he is doing something that deserves a scolding, Landon loves to say, "Owie Preston Brown!" He even taught Owen how to eat the cake at his birthday party!

Every morning Daddy and Landon drop Owen off first in his class, then go to Landon's class. Every morning, Landon picks out a toy for Owen and gives him a kiss and a hug. It means so much to Landon, because one morning he forgot to give Owen his hug. Halfway to class, Landon stopped in the hallway and looked up at Philip and cried, "Oh no! I didn't give Owie his hug!" He raced back to the classroom and Philip said practically tackled Owen with a hug! This special brother moment means a lot to Owen too though! Philip said that this morning when Landon went to kiss him, Owen beat him to it and gave him a big ole' smacker on the lips! Owie kisses are the best...open mouthed and slobbery!

In addition to kisses, Owen is doing a lot of mimicking gestures: pointing to things he wants, blowing kisses, waving, clapping his hands, dancing, and pretending to use objects like phones, crayons, and remotes. He loves to play with his toys especially walkers, cars, blocks, and anything he can hit. Actually more than his toys he loves to play with things that aren't toys and pull everything out of the cabinets or all the wipes out of the container!

He loves to eat EVERYTHING! I really don't even know what his favorite food is because he really just likes everything!!! He never willingly stops eating. You just have to stop giving him food. Owen has started whole milk and is doing great with it! He is in the transition stage and drinking some from a bottle and some from a sippy cup. I stopped nursing about a week before he turned one. It was a sad process, but a pretty smooth transition overall.

Owen is SO close to walking! He can stand up on his own and take one to two steps. He stands up often but only tries to walk every now and then. He is such a FAST crawler, so he usually just resorts to crawling. He does walk along things a great deal and use his walkers and push cars to race around the house.

He can clearly say, "mama" "dada" and "bye bye." It sometimes sounds like he can say "landon" "hello" and "ball" but it's still not real clear, so we won't count those words yet. :)

I can't believe our sweet boy is one!! He is such a blessing to our lives, and we have loved every second we have been able to spend with him over this past year. We look forward to all the memories we will make as he continues to grow into a caring young man. I just hope time goes by v...e...r...y.....s...l...o...w...l...y!
