Mother Daughter Trip to RI

At the end of July, my mom, sisters, and I went on a girls' trip to Rhode Island. The entire trip was perfect from start to finish. I flew up separate from Mom and Michelle, and Emily drove over from camp when she was finished for the day. The boys dropped me off at the airport, and then rode over to Sharon's. She was so sweet to keep the boys until Wednesday of the next week since Philip had back to school! It was hard being away from them for so long, but I knew they were in good hands and getting lots of love and fun!! Thanks so much to Sharon and Uncle Charlie for keeping them!

I had a really nice flight with the most interesting seat mates on the plane. It was different traveling alone, but I have to admit it was pretty easy to only have to take care of myself! Ha! :)

I arrived super late, but Mom, Em, and Michelle picked me up from the airport without a complaint and with the most delicious crab and lobster cakes from the restaurant where they had eaten dinner. Mom is the sweetest thing, and she bought us gifts for every day of the trip. The first night she gave us personalized cards and beautiful necklaces with our initials on them. We wore the necklaces every day and got tons of compliments on our special jewelry.

We started our fun Sunday morning in Providence at the Hilton. The hotel was right downtown, and we were able to walk around and enjoy the city early that morning.

Later that morning we drove to The Hole in the Wall camp so Mom and Michelle could have a tour. I had seen the camp a few weeks before when we went on our big road trip, but I LOVED getting to see everything again! HITW is such a magical place, and I'm so proud of Emily for making such a positive impact on the lives of others this summer.

After visiting camp, we took the scenic route through CT back to RI to Naragansett. We stayed at this precious bed and breakfast in the historic beach town. The B&B we stayed at actually housed orphans from London after World War 2. In the house was a thank you letter from Queen Elizabeth, and the inn keeper told us that one of the orphans (who is now in her late 80s) would be staying with them in September. Mom surprised us with another treat, a cute make up bag with our intials. That evening, we went to eat at a charming restaurant on the beach, and sat outside and talked for hours!

The next morning, we headed up to Newport, RI. We toured the Vanderbilt's summer home, The Breakers, which was just GORGEOUS!! Then we ate lunch, window shopped a bit, and headed to our hotel to spend some time at the beach. That evening, we went to another restaurant on the water, and once again sat there for hours talking and laughing!! Our surprise for this day was a book mark, perfect for the chick lit I got from the airport to read JUST FOR FUN!!

The last morning we tried to savour every moment together. Mom and I went on a long walk on the beach, and we all got our last present from Mom! $20 spending money to buy a souvenir. We went looking in a few shops and all ended up picking the same shirt! :)

Flying back home was a little bit more of an adventure because I had about a dozen bottles of Owen's milk. Haha! But the milk and I made it home safe and ready to start back to school the very next day.

This trip with my Mom and sisters is one that I will remember for a lifetime. Our time together was beyond precious.

  1. What a special trip! I look froward to doing this with my girls when they are older! :) And I may copy your mom with the gift each day! :)
