Welcome to the World Owen Preston!

Owen Preston Brown arrived on Wednesday evening at 11:15 p.m. He weighed 7lbs 3 ounces and was 21 inches long!

After working all day, Philip and I came home. We cooked and ate dinner, played with Landon, and cleaned up the house a little bit. After we put Landon to bed a little after 7, I went to lay down. This is when I realized that my water had broken. It must have broken at some point during the process of putting Landon to bed, but I'm not really sure when. I called the doctor, and he told us to head on up to the hospital. Emily came over to the house to take care of Landon, and Sharon headed over as well so Em could come up to the hospital. Philip's Mom and my parents also left their houses to begin the long trek up to Athens.

See...I was barely having contractions...I said, "Ooh! Take a picture of me before we go in!" Haha!

Philip and I left for the hospital around 8:30. When we got there, I was barely having contractions. But it wouldn't be long. Once we got into the room, the contractions came on fast and strong. Philip was so wonderful! The hospital was full, so we were in this tiny triage room. Philip held my hand the entire time and blocked my eyes from the bright lights when I was having contractions. He and the nurse kept everyone that came in really quiet, which is the way I like it when I'm having a contraction. I really didn't even have to ask. They could just tell that was what I needed.

After laboring for about an hour, the contractions got super quick and painful. I had basically no break. Our nurse raced into the room and said, "we've got to get you this epidural now!" I had gone from 4 cm to over 7 cm in that short of time. We had to wait 45 minutes until I had been given an entire bag of fluids, but I was finally able to get the epidural. Right after I was finished with the epidural, the doctor said, "Okay, start prepping the room for her to push." Yes...15 minutes later I was ready to push! Just enough of the epidural had set in to where I didn't feel pain, but my body wasn't near as numb as I remember it being with Landon. I think this was a good thing, because after only 15 minutes of pushing, Owen Preston Brown was born! His cord was wrapped around his neck, but Philip said the doctor quickly unwrapped it and cut it. He was absolutely beautiful and perfect!

After Owen was born, I just got to hold him for a very long time. Even after they cleaned him off in the room, we got to keep him with us for over three hours. In fact, when Emily and all of our parents arrived, he had never left us. I love that! It was so wonderful to spend those first precious hours with our sweet baby boy!
