While we drove to the hospital, I tried hard to comfort Landon and keep him awake. He kept saying he wanted to fall asleep, and I just kept telling him his favorite story, "Jack and the Beanstalk," and asking him questions to make sure he was coherent.
When we arrived at the ER, they took him straight back. They let me hold him in the bed, which kept him very calm. He was an amazing patient even with his injuries! He let them wrap his head, X-ray his wrist, and stitch up the gash in his head without even a cry. He was more interested in all the equipment, why there were different sizes of gloves, and the tools they were going to use to stitch up his head!
He did end up needing between 7-10 stitches and he fractured his wrist. He is into his second week with his cast, and his head is healing very nicely! We ended up getting a CT scan just to double check, and everything looked great! We are so thankful that the fall was not worse, and that he caught himself some with his wrist! Hopefully he will think twice before climbing again, although he has already been pointing out trees as we have been walking at the botanical gardens that are "just perfect for climbing." Unfortunately height is in that boy's blood! I told him how about he just climb at our local climbing place when he is wearing a harness! ;)
He wanted to share pictures with his class, and of course his teacher said he could so we made a little powerpoint together for him to share! Haha! He loved it!
He chose a brown cast! When they told him they didn't have brown, he asked for grey. Philip said the doctor was dying laughing and said no one had ever asked for those colors before! Everything is healing, and his head is looking better each day. We are trying to keep his bangs pulled back now and medicine on the cut so it will minimize the scar!
