I didn't get the chance to post last week about the Optimist Club Oratorical Contest that my kids participated in last Saturday, Feb. 25th. Twenty five JJH students worked for weeks before the event writing a 4-5 minute speech (which is about 2 typed single space pages--alot for an elementary student!) about the theme, "How my optimism helps me overcome obstacles."
Two winners were chosen from our school to compete in the club level competition which was held at the UGA Law School. Our students, a fourth grader and second grader competed against kids in high school! Even though neither of them won, Mrs. Hughes (my partner in crime) and I were so proud of them for trying their best and confidently giving their speeches! This was our first time participating in the Oratorical Contest, so we all learned so much! Also, so many of our wonderful students wanted to go to the contest to support their JJH friends, so Mrs. Hughes and I decided to make an exciting day of it! We all went to the contest and then picniced on the UGA North Campus Lawn after the event. Parents brought sandwiches, fruit, and juice boxes and Mrs. Hughes made a funfetti cake! We all had so much fun spending time together on a Saturday playing and picnicing after spending a morning listening to inspiring speeches!

We also had a blast THIS weekend enjoying the first weekend of March! On Saturday night, our friends the Meltons and the Griffeths came over for dinner. Landon loved playing with his best friend, Tripp, and can't wait for his new friend Tanner to arrive this summer! Landon and Tripp had a blast crawling around, watching the Duke vs. UNC game, and splashing in the tub! Landon was so tired on Sunday from all the excitement!

They will hate us for this when they are in high school! :)
On Sunday, we enjoyed our Sunday morning tradition. When we are in town, we love to go to 8 a.m. church and then to Mama's Boy. Mama's Boy is a modern southern diner in Athens that is PACKED if you go anytime after 10 a.m.. However, since we get out of church at 9, we can usually slip in before the crazy crowds! Such delicious food that is always more delicious when I get to enjoy it with my two boys!
