When we first moved to Athens, we moved into the Jennings Mill Apartment Complex. Although Athens was a fun place to be, Philip and I really missed our family. I think I cried three times a week that first year! We loved our schools and being at UGA, but being away from family for the first time was hard.
In June of 2007, we bought our house in Brookshire. This changed our perception of Athens and made the whole town feel like it really was our home. We made friends in our neighborhood and became closer with our friends at school. Yes, Athens was now becoming a place that we could see ourselves starting a family. In fact, this was the summer that we rescued our crazy dog KJ (Krzyzewski Jordan) from the Oconee Animal Shelter.
During the next few years, we made school moves. Philip got the Assistant Principal job at Oconee County Middle School (OCMS), then the Principal job at OCMS, and last year the Principal job at North Oconee High School. I became the Enrichment Specialist at Judia Jackson Harris Elementary Charter School where I get to lead the implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model--one of my passions! We both love our jobs, our schools, and our colleagues (who are now our friends!)
Our son Landon was born on April 8, 2011. Words can not express how much we love that little boy. Philip and I have had so much fun learning how to be parents together. We definitely make mistakes, but we laugh our way through them. In December, I graduated with my Ph.D. in Gifted and Creative Education from UGA. Philip is finishing up his dissertation and should graduate in May.
What a full life we have had so far, and what wonderful things we have to look forward to in our journey together! We are excited to share this blog with you so you will know "What's going down with the Browns!"
Yours,
Katherine
